Emotional Intelligence in Early Childhood
Course Description
‘Emotional intelligence’ describes the ability to recognise, use, comprehend and effectively control one's emotions. We begin this psychology course by examining the important role of emotional intelligence and peer relationships in early childhood development. We then analyse various models of emotional intelligence created by famous psychologists like Peter Salovey and Reuven Bar-On. We help you identify the most important emotional intelligence skills and establish the importance of motivation, empathy and social skills.
This psychology course explains the dynamics and importance of the development of peer relationships in early childhood. We lay out the characteristics of individuals with high levels of emotional intelligence and outline how empathy helps with emotional socialisation as we outline the factors that affect the development of peer relationships in early childhood. We examine the dynamics of emotional socialisation and explain how to harness it to provide emotion coaching. The course provides useful techniques you can use to make parent-child emotional conversations fruitful and traces the impact of emotional intelligence on children’s peer relationships.
This course provides the skills you need to help children develop emotional intelligence as they build healthy peer relationships in their early years. You can confidently use these models and techniques to assist both preschoolers and school-age children. We explain how to aid the process of emotional intelligence development in children as they learn to handle their feelings. We trace each stage of early childhood development and explain how the psychological models can be applied to help young people build up their emotional intelligence and ability to form constructive friendships with their peers. This child psychology course helps parents, teachers and anyone engaged in childcare to understand the important theories of emotional intelligence and apply them in practical ways to help children manage their feelings as they grow.
