Learn English: Global Issues with Gerund and Infinitive Functions
Course Description
People from all over the world face specific problems and issues of all sizes. We designed this English course to teach you basic vocabulary about these global matters. We also review the terminology associated with the efforts to solve these problems. The words and phrases provided here will help you debate these issues and discuss what you can do to make a difference with other speakers of English.
After examining new vocabulary, the course focuses on two related grammar topics. The first revise the grammar rules for gerunds and infinitives. We remind you which verbs are followed by gerunds and which are followed by infinitives. We then explain using gerunds and infinitives as subjects and subject complements. Our second grammar topic introduces new grammar rules for gerunds and infinitives. We show you how to use gerunds after prepositions, examine infinitives after adjectives, and explore the use of possessive gerunds. The course delves into infinitives of purpose and describes common expressions associated with gerunds.
This higher-level English course then integrates your vocabulary and grammar skills by allowing you to practice reading, listening, and writing to hone your newfound skills. We draw on what you have learned about global issues and solutions to demonstrate the correct usage of gerunds and infinitives. There are lists of verbs for gerunds and infinitives, writing tips, and exercises in our 'Resources' section to help you practice your skills and gain confidence in English. Sign up to learn the grammar of gerunds and infinitives and gain confidence as you employ your newfound vocabulary and English skills to discuss and find solutions to the global issues that impact us all.
